A neighborhood in the eastern part of Duluth, the Lakeside and Lester Park area has a little over 7,000 residents. Called Lakeside for a reason, the neighborhood has plenty of Superior lake shore to call its own.

Lester Park with miles of hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country ski trails, including the Lake Superior Hiking Trails, along Lester River and Amity Creek, Lester Park is a wonderful place to spend quality time outdoors. This park features open fields and a playground for the entire family to enjoy.

Lester Park Golf Course established in 1934, the Lester Park Golf Course is known for its spectacular beauty and rich history. With a view of Lake Superior on 20 of the 27 holes, this course includes an 18 hole course and a more challenging 9 hole course.

Lester River Rendezvous
Every year since 1998, the community of Lakeside has hosted a festival held in the city streets in September. There is a great sense of community togetherness, lots of food, entertainment, and crafts for people to purchase. With games, pony rides, and the reenactment of the life of a voyageur arriving in the 18th century, this festival is sure to entertain the whole family.

Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory
Open year round to the public, Hawk Ridge is a great place to enjoy with the whole family, study alone, or take a hike with friends on more than four miles of hiking trails. Public Schools
Located within Lakeside are Lester Park Elementary School and private school St. Michael’s Lakeside School, both for grades PK through 5th. East Senior High is also located very close to the Lakeside neighborhood serving grades 9 through 12. Lakeside belongs to the Duluth Independent School District #709.

Located along Lake Superior and only 10 minutes from Downtown Duluth, Lakeside features outstanding views and a convenient closeness to the city.

There are many local businesses located within Lakeside including, but not limited to, U.S. Bank, North Shore Bank, Essentia Health Clinic, St. Luke’s Clinic, Eight Street Video, SuperOne Foods, Lester Park Skelly, Marshall Hardware, and Yoga North.

Local Restaurants
With more local cafes than most neighborhoods in Duluth, Lakeside is a wonderful location for grabbing coffee or lunch with friends or dinner with your family. Some of these include Amity Coffee, Sammy’s Pizza, and New London Café.

Places of Worship
Lakeside offers a variety of places of worship including Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, St. Michael’s Church, Anchor Point Community Church, Lester Park United Methodist Church, and Faith Lutheran.

Historical Features
Lakeside features the Lester River Bridge, which is registered as the No. 5772 National Historic Place. This area is also home to the United States Fisheries Station. Located near the mouth of the Lester River, this site consists of the Hatchery/Bunk-Room Building, Boat House, Pump House, Supervisor’s Cabin, and a Superintendant’s House. This complex is now owned by UMD.
