The Woodland neighborhood is located in the north eastern section of Duluth, MN.  The main road is Woodland Ave.  Many businesses and recreational areas are located in the area.  Woodland Ave makes traveling to downtown Duluth easy.  

Hartley Nature Center
The true natural playground of Duluth, Hartley Nature Center offers a multitu
de of recreational opportunities right in the middle of the city. The Nature Center, a beautiful 7,500 sq ft state of the art “green” building, features classrooms, office space, a library/meeting room, and an exhibit hall. Outside of the building lies a beautiful Butterfly Garden, Gazebo Point, a bird watcher’s favorite, Hartley Pond where you can fish for sunfish, bass, suckers, perch and bullheads, Rock Knob for mountain biking, Canoe Launch where you can get a close look at the beaver lodge and dam, and more than 10 miles of hiking trails!

Ridgeview Country Club
Located in the south western part of the neighborhood, Ridgeview Country Club is a private, member-owned club featuring 18 holes of natural rustic beauty. The Ridgeview Country Club also includes a Pro Shop, the Ridgeview Dining Room including a dance floor, the Grill Room, and the Alcove, all of which can be used for small to large events.

Fryberger Arena Ice Skating Rink, founded in 1993, is an indoor rink open from late September to the end of March. Figure skating and ice skating lessons are available for children and adults.  Anyone can learn from their wonderful instructors. Fryberger Arena also has Adult and Youth Ice Hockey programs and leagues along with birthday parties, holiday parties, and other events. Make sure to bring an extra layer of clothing or a blanket.  This arena is called “Freezeberger” for a reason!

 

Woodland Community Center
The Woodland Community Center is a satellite location for the Duluth YMCA and headquarters for the Y’s gymnastics and dance programs. This location also offers other community programs including Silver Sneakers, Cribbage and Coffee, Tot Time, Aikido, Group Exercise classes, a small fitness studio, and more. Outdoors, the Woodland Community Center offers tennis courts, a playground, field space, a picnic table, and an outdoor ice skating rink. 

 

Outdoor Recreation
Tischer Creek runs on the western edge of Woodland while Amity Creek flows through the eastern edge of the neighborhood. Hartley Park with Hartley Pond and Woodland Park with the Fryberger Arena and Woodland Recreation Center are both located in the southern section of the neighborhood with Downer Park on the eastern edge. The Superior Hiking Trail also runs along Amity Creek on the eastern side of Woodland.

 

Public Schools
Duluth School District #709 includes nine Elementary Schools, two Middle Schools, and two High Schools. Within the Woodland neighborhood there are St. John’s School, an Evangelist Catholic school, and Focus Plus both serving grades 6-8.

 

Location
Located just 15 minutes from Downtown Duluth and 10 minutes from Lake Superior, the Woodland neighborhood is a charming area that features plenty of mature trees and beautiful scenery.

Most of the local businesses in Woodland are located near the center of the neighborhood. These include North Shore Bank of Commerce, Denny’s Ace Hardware, Woodland Marketplace Foods, AJ’s Tanning Salon, Catwalk Salon, K/J Auto Services, Woodland Liquors, Cookie Temptations, and Woodland Hills.

Local Restaurants
Located in the business district in the middle of Woodland, Sammy’s Pizza & Restaurant serves traditional Italian pizzas, pastas, and much more.

 

Places of Worship
Woodland is home to a few different places of worship including St. John’s Church, Islamic Center of Twin Ports, Concordia Lutheran Church, and Living Stones Fellowship.
